Seven years after seemingly retiring from acting in 2017 with Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread,” Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis has changed his mind – for his son.
The 67-year-old actor was photographed at work with Sean Bean on a film set in Manchester in the UK on a motorbike according to a report published earlier today in The Daily Mail.
Day-Lewis was driving the bike and can be seen sporting a handlebar moustache. Bean, who reportedly plays an ex-soldier in the film, can be seen as his passenger on the back.
Then, just a few minutes ago, details broke about the film. According to THR the film is titled “Anemone” and is being directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis.
Focus Features and Plan B are producing the film which father and son co-wrote. The project explores family bonds, specifically those involving fathers, sons and brothers.
The older Day-Lewis, Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green fill out the cast. Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said in a statement:
“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator. They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”
Universal Pictures International will distribute internationally for Focus.
Earlier this year Martin Scorsese hinted at collaborating with Day-Lewis again for one more film during a National Board of Review awards ceremony, but nothing more came of that comment.
