A new report at In Touch Weekly claims that “Deadpool and Wolverine” stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are the top choice to host the Academy Awards early next year.
The outlet’s ‘insider’ says: “Hugh and Ryan – as a team – are at the top of the Oscars’ wish list now that they’ve sealed their status as the two biggest movie stars of the year.”
They add that they’ve been approached, and “they haven’t said no yet”. Jackman previously hosted the 2009 ceremony on his own and it remains one of the most well-regarded Oscar ceremonies of the past two decades.
He and Reynolds’ bromantic media tour for their film was very well-received and the actors very successfully took over recent Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel’s live program for a day.
The pair would also be a ratings draw for the network, potentially pushing the ceremony’s ratings back above the 20 million mark after falling to just 10.4 million during the pandemic in 2021.
Should they host, they’ll likely be well-paid for the gig as well as being a draw for big brands with advertising dollars.
