Recently came the news that “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton has been set to take the helm of the untitled fourth Spider-Man film at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Now, a new report at MTTSH (via CBM) indicates that filming on the project is being lined up to commence in the UK in late May. In addition, casting is underway for a new female lead and a “new male lead to serve as a foil for Peter”.
Already speculation has hit that the female lead could be Black Cat, while the ‘foil for Peter’ won’t be an outright villain per se – at least, not at first.
Multiple rumors have swirled throughout the year suggesting that Sony’s Tom Rothman and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige have disagreed over story – Sony wanting another multiverse adventure, Marvel wanting smaller scale and more grounded take.
There’s also the question of how much longer Tom Holland will play the role. The actor is expected to be involved in the part for not just this film but the next “Avengers” films – one of which will be filming around the same time as this. Beyond that, things seems less clear.
Whatever the story is, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” scribes Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are writing the script.
