“Longlegs,” “Watcher” and “It Follows” star Maika Monroe has signed to star in the remake of 1992 psychological thriller “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” at 20th Century Studios.
In that film, an obstetrician (John DeLancie) commits suicide after being found out for sexually molesting his patients. The news leads to his pregnant wife (Rebecca De Mornay) miscarrying.
Vowing revenge on the woman who leveled the first accusation (Annabella Sciorra), she infiltrates the woman’s family as the new nanny to her daughter.
Her aim is to take the kid (Madeline Zima) and husband (Matt McCoy) for herself – seducing him and killing anyone who might expose the truth about her motives.
Julianne Moore and Ernie Hudson co-starred in that film which Curtis Hanson directed. Monroe will take on the crazed nanny role, but the project is a ‘two-hander’ and casting her co-star will be key.
Michelle Garza Cervera (“Huesera”) is directing the new take that is being produced by Ted Field, Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca.
Micah Bloomberg, who created the Prime Video anthology show “Homecoming” and wrote the Margaret Qualley thriller “Sanctuary,” is penning the script.
