Electronic Arts has announced that it’s shutting down its mobile game “The Simpsons: Tapped Out” after twelve years.
A pop-up notice with the app has appeared in which EA says the game would no longer be playable after January 24th 2025. After that time, the game will no longer be accessible.
In addition, new downloads of the game are ending at Halloween and in-app purchases have already been disabled.
EA says the decision to end the live service title was “an emotional one” and over its history they’ve delivered “308 updates, 831 characters and 1,463 questlines.”
The game debuted in 2012 and users were tasked with creating their own Springfield using familiar characters and buildings from the show.
The game itself was free, but users could also make in-app purchases for donuts to speed up tasks, as well as buy premium characters and buildings.
At one point it was considered one of the App Store’s highest earners.
