The first trailer has been released for Pablo Larrain’s upcoming biopic “Maria” starring Angelina Jolie who has earned rave reviews for her work as famed diva Maria Callas.
The story follows the lively and tragic story of the famed opera singer, dealing with her final days in solitude in 1970s Paris.
A Greek immigrant in New York, Callas rose to be the most celebrated soprano of her time and the long-time paramour of Greek ship magnate Aristotle Onassis.
Onassis left her to marry Jackie Kennedy and Callas moved to Italy, then to France. She never fully recovered from the betrayal and died of a heart attack at age 52.
The cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Valeria Golino. The film was shot in Paris, Greece, Budapest and Milan.
“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight penned the film which is a biopic trilogy capper for Larrain following the Natalie Portman-led “Jackie” and Kristen Stewart-led “Spencer”.
“Maria” opens in select theaters on November 27th before debuting on Netflix on December 11th.
