The first trailer for the female-driven “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina” is set to go online tomorrow with Lionsgate releasing a brief tease today.
The film was shot almost two years ago and was originally slated for this past June, but will now open mid-2025.
The delay was to accommodate the filming of additional action sequences and reshoots, with franchise steerer Chad Stahelski helping guide those sequences alongside the film’s director, Len Wiseman.
Ana de Armas stars as a young female assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.
Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, David Castaneda, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves co-star.
Stahelski and his 87Eleven Entertainment label are developing a “Highlander” reboot, which he’ll direct, and potentially a fifth “John Wick” film.
