For a little while there, before Warners opted to give Matt Reeves his “The Batman” let alone hand the DC kingdom over to James Gunn and Peter Safran, a different kind of “Batman” film was in the works.

Back in the time when Ben Affleck was playing Bruce Wayne/Batman for Zack Snyder’s DCEU, he was lining up a solo “Batman” film which he and Geoff Johns were co-writing and he planned to direct.

Then, after “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” came out and hit a rough reception, Affleck stepped down from the director’s chair but still intended to star.

Around early 2019, Affleck exited the role and, a few months later, Robert Pattinson was announced as the new Batman. Affleck did briefly reprise the part though for “The Flash” last year which served as his final stint as the character.

Not much has been revealed about Affleck’s solo “The Batman” film beyond actor Joe Manganiello’s Slade Wilson/Deathstroke arriving in Gotham City and determined to take down the Bat.

Storyboard artist Jay Oliva worked on the project and to celebrate Batman Day yesterday, he released a storyboard from the film you can see below.

Oliva previously said several drafts were done of the script which he saw. He told Inverse last year that the film was “gonna cover something that had never really been covered in comics” but was building off parts of the mythos for the past few decades.

He added: “It was very clever and there were a lot of things about it that I really loved that I wish that had come to fruition.” Oliva is also a longtime collaborator of Zack Snyder and worked on his upcoming Netflix series “Twilight of the Gods”.

Affleck most recently has been filming “The Accountant 2” ahead of a release of that film in cinemas next year. His would be onscreen antagonist Manganiello just arrived in South Africa to film his role as Baroque Works syndicate leader Crocodile (aka. Mr. 0) in the second season of Netflix’s big-budget live-action “One Piece” series.
