British actor David Graham, who voiced numerous memorable characters across a number of franchises, has passed away at the age of 99. Graham’s voice was a staple of British television thanks to a number of memorable characters.
In 1963 he and Peter Hawkins became the voice of the Daleks in “Doctor Who”. Hawkins help devise the way they spoke with the pair splitting voice duties – Hawkins played the superior and higher-pitched Daleks, Graham the lower pitched ones.
That continued across multiple episodes and two 1960s films before Graham exited. He and Hawkins remained lifelong friends and Graham recorded new lines for the colourised recut of the 1963 serial “The Daleks” last year in time for the show’s 60th anniversary. He also appeared on screen as Professor Kerensky in the famed ‘Who’ serial “City of Death”.
Two years after first playing a Dalek, Graham signed on to lend his voice to Gerry Anderson’s Supermarionation “Thunderbirds” TV series as well as its film sequels. Graham voiced four characters on the show.
These included the submersible-steering Gordon Tracy, mechanical and engineering genius Brains, manservant Kyrano, and most famously Parker – the butler and chauffeur to Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward.
Graham would reprise the role of Parker for the “Thunderbirds Are Go” series reboot in the late 2010s, playing opposite Rosamund Pike as Lady Penelope.
To younger generations he’s most well known for his voice work as Grandpa Pig in “Peppa Pig” and as the Wise Old Elf in “Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom”.
He also famously played Big Brother in the “1984” television Super Bowl advert to introduce the Apple Macintosh computer, and had an extensive career both in the voice acting space and numerous TV programs including “Supercar,” “Stingray,” “Fireball XL5,” “So Haunt Me,” “Timeslip,” “Horizon,” and guest spots on shows like “Danger Man,” “The Saint” and “The Avengers”.
