“There Will Be Blood” and “Inherent Vice” director Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film has reportedly wrapped production in El Paso, Texas with shooting finishing up earlier this month.
Titled “The Battle of Baktan Cross,” production began in January and is expected to be a modern-day film adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s “Vineland”.
Plots specific are under wraps, but what is known is that the production will be Anderson’s most expensive and most mainstream film to date with a budget rumored to be around $115-140 million.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle and Alana Haim star in the film which will incorporate action movie sequences and the single biggest stunt of Anderson’s films so far.
Michael Bauman is lensing the film in 35mm VistaVision, while Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood is handling the score. Much of the film was shot in California, specifically regions around Humboldt County and Sacramento.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in cinemas on August 8th 2025 including an IMAX release.
