Variance Films has reportedly been selected by Apple Studios to handle the U.S. theatrical release of “Shame” and “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” according to The InSneider.
Apple will partner with Variance who will rollout the film in cinemas exclusively on November 1st ahead of the title having its debut on the Apple TV+ service three weeks later on November 22nd.
Variance handled the U.S. release of Indian smash “RRR” in 2022 and sub-distribution of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” last year, and beat out other more high profile arthouse distributors like Searchlight for the film.
The most expensive film of McQueen’s to date, the story follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside.
George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
