Private Division and Wētā Workshop have revealed the trailer and a March 25th 2025 release date for “Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game”.
Sir Richard Taylor is amongst those talking up the title in a just released trailer that blends the nicer parts of Middle Earth from Tolkien’s lore with a game that has elements of “The Sims,” “Stardew Valley” and other titles in what’s dubbed the ‘cosy sims’ sub-genre.
Wētā Workshop, who crafted the various practical and digital effects for the original “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, created the game set in Bywater.
The audience plays as Hobbits – living their life eating second breakfast, smoking, gardening, forging fellowships, cooking meals, and exploring in order to help this small community become an official village of the Shire.
Players start with a bedroom, a lounge, and a kitchen and can later expand your home and supplies for fishing, foraging, gardening, and trading. The main aim of the game though is for players to unwind, relax, and explore.
The title is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Netflix Games.
