Though it’s nabbing franchise best reviews, the animated “Transformers One” is sadly not drawing the franchise’s best numbers.
The animated feature is currently heading for a $26 million opening weekend following a $9.7 million opening day (which includes $3.4 million of Thursday previews) according to Deadline.
A lot will depend upon walk-up business on the weekend to hopefully push it towards the $35-40 million projections the film was pulling in earlier this week.
At present the film will be in a close race with the third weekend of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” which looks to be dropping about 52% to a $24.75 million haul.
By end of Sunday, that film should hit the $225 million mark, surpassing Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” to become the second highest grossing September theatrical release ever behind only the $329 million haul of the first “IT” in 2017.
The second weekend of “Speak No Evil” is expected to come in third with $5.7 million, down by 50%.
The new Halle Berry-led horror film “Never Let Go” looks to debut in fourth with $3-4 million and is going head to head with the acclaimed Demi Moore-led body horror film “The Substance” which is targeting a $3.5 million opening.
