Reports earlier this year suggested the Daisy Ridley-led film “Star Wars: New Jedi Order,” the one set years after the events of ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ could film as early as this month.

That’s not happening. In fact, DanielRPK (via WOR) is reporting that the film has way more work to be done and is now “on hold” at Lucasfilm with the earliest it will be able to shoot being sometime next year – if that.

The film’s writer Steven Knight has reportedly been trying to crack the script for well over a year and a final draft still hasn’t been submitted to Lucasfilm. At least four drafts have apparently been submitted with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy offering numerous notes.

Knight is about to get very busy directing his “Peaky Blinders” movie so it’s not clear how much more work he’ll be doing on the “Star Wars” script.

Damon Lindelof and Justin Brit-Gibson previously took a crack at it before departing the project over creative differences.

Documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to direct the film which is one of multiple movies in development – the one that is definitely coming in first is Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu” which has been filming and hits in May 2026.
