Marvel Studios has had the rights back to “Ghost Rider” for years now, but haven’t really done anything with them. Nicolas Cage played the role of the Johnny Blaze version of the character in two films prior to the rights going back to the MCU.
Once they did, Gabriel Luna played the Robbie Reyes version in Marvel Television’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” for a short while. Neither of those characters however are part of Earth-616 in the MCU.
In recent times there’s been rumors of Ghost Rider making a comeback, potentially in a ‘Marvel Studios Special Presentation’ – at least until Disney opted to slow its roll on its Marvel content for the Disney+ service. Since then the rumors quietened down.
Now, speaking with Collider about the launch of “Agatha All Along,” Marvel Television boss and Marvel Studios streaming chief Brad Winderbaum was asked which character he’d love to bring to TV in the future. His answer:
“I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider. I think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.”
Danny Ketch was the second Ghost Rider, debuting in 1990 and hugely renewing interest in the character at that time. In those comics, Danny discovers a mystical motorcycle and transforms into Ghost Rider whenever innocent blood is spilled.
He also wields the Penance Stare, a powerful ability that forces wrongdoers to feel the pain they’ve caused others.
“Barbie” star Ryan Gosling has previously expressed interest in the Ghost Rider character to which Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said last year: “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider…Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan is amazing. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.”
