Get ready to go again. Art the clown is back for more grisly mayhem. Filmmaker Damien Leone has confirmed that a fourth installment of the Terrifier franchise is in the works.
For those of you unfamiliar with these movies, they follow the misadventures of the potential victims of an enigmatic serial killer known only as Art the Clown. He first appeared in a short film – The 9th Circle – and then in the anthology film All Hallows’ Eve before breaking out into his own franchise.
The Terrifier films were notorious for their small budgets but extreme practical effects and gory deaths, such as the controversial hacksaw death scene, or the bedroom scene depicting the lengthy murder of a supporting character.
The movies turn a decent profit. The first movie made more than $500k on a $35k budget. The second made nearly $16 million on a $250k budget. Of course, a tipping point can come where the math fails to math on a franchise like this.
The third movie premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas last week. There was a Q&A and, inevitably, Leone confirmed that the fourth movie was already in hand.
The third Terrifier ups the ante, with Jason Patric among those joining the cast. It is released in theaters on October 11th.
