It feels like we have been reporting on The Penguin forever. Well, it is finally here. It arrived on HBO and Max in the last few hours in the US, and is available via Sky Atlantic in the UK. Only episode one has been released, and already there is a big spoiler floating around out there on the internet.
Episode two will be out on Sunday, so a trailer has dropped at the conclusion of the first episode showing what is to come in the weeks ahead. This has also been made available online.
The Penguin is set directly after the events of The Batman and follows Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb attempting to seize power in Gotham’s criminal underworld following the death of Carmine Falcone. Carmine’s daughter, Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, has returned to Gotham and also wants control.
The series also stars Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, and Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti. Mark Strong’s role has been revealed as playing Carmine Falcone in flashbacks to when he was younger than the version we saw in The Batman, where he was played by John Turturro.
In other news about The Penguin, according to a report in People (via Dark Horizons), lead Farrell confirmed he does have a naked scene as Oz, and it is heavily in shadow. The prosthetic he wears for the scene was created by FX artist Mike Marino and is a detachable velcro crotch prosthetic with a beak at the end of it. The mind boggles.
The eight episodes will be released through to November on the various streamers.
