I’m going to say that most of us are looking forward to seeing Megalopolis. It’s an indy movie from Francis Ford Coppola. Being made outside of the Hollywood machine is a good thing.
So far, the reviews of the movie have been mixed. Some seeing it as great, with all the shills who are secretly paid by Hollywood seeing it as bad. That’s a bit unfair, but one person who thought the movie was great was, umm, Francis Ford Coppola.
Coppola recently joined Letterboxd, a review site where people can leave star ratings and review movies. One of the movies he has watched, and reviewed, is Megalopolis, directed by himself. I think there’s a bit of a conflict of interest there, but we can let it pass, he did give us The Godfather.
He gave it a full 5 stars. Idiot, everyone knows if you review your own stuff, you knock off at least half a mark. You don’t want to look stupid. But then, he did give 5 stars to The Last Showgirl, a movie directed by Gia Coppola, his granddaughter.
As I said from the outset, I’m sure most of us are willing to give Megalopolis a viewing. It’s been a passion project for Coppola and he’s invested a lot of his own money into it.
We will all get the chance to see it when it’s released into theatres on the 17th Sept.
