Following his success with 2022’s “Barbarian,” filmmaker Zach Cregger is reportedly in talks to direct the new “Clue” movie at Sony’s TriStar Pictures reports The Insneider (via World of Reel).
Shay Hatten (“Rebel Moon,” “John Wick 3”) will write the script for the film in which six guests are anonymously invited to a strange mansion for dinner.
After their host is killed, they must cooperate with the staff to identify the murderer as the bodies pile up. The film is based on the beloved board game also known as “Cluedo” in some markets.
Sony acquired the screen rights back in April and seem to be moving fast on it. This is the latest attempt at reviving the property following one six years ago by actor Ryan Reynolds who was considering producing a new live-action film.
The property was previously adapted for the big screen in 1985 into what’s now considered a true cult classic of the comedy genre which has earned a massive following over the years. Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren and Eileen Brennan starred.
Cregger recently shot the film “Weapons” which is currently dated for a January 2026 release. Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Brian Tyree Henry, Tom Burke, Austin Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong star.
