You might have heard about Mickey 17. It stars Robert Pattinson and comes from director Bong Joon-ho. Here is a trailer.
I’m getting that weird feeling I haven’t felt in ages… what is it called… hope? That actually looks like good fun, with an interesting story.
Mickey 17 stars Pattinson, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Thomas Turgoose, Angus Imrie and Steven Park. Joon-ho is writer and director, with Edward Ashton co-writing as he wrote the original novel.
It’s the newest movie from Joon-ho, best known for movies like The Host, Snowpiercer, Okja and, most recently, Parasite. He has a great take on storytelling, injecting a little dark humor along the way. The outline is:
Mickey 17, known as an “expendable,” goes on a dangerous journey to colonize an ice planet. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact.
It sounds like Moon, but that had a more serious tone to it. Mickey 17 sounds like more fun.
I know a lot of people rag on Pattinson, but I have respect for the guy. After Twilight, he could have just stayed in those ‘good-looking heartthrob’ roles, but he didn’t. Most recently he was in movies like Devil All The Time, Tenet, and Lighthouse. Not exactly teen dramas.
Mickey 17 will be in cinemas on 31st January, 2025 and I’m looking forward to it.
