Apple TV+ has cancelled the TV series reimagining of Terry Gilliam’s 1981 dark comedy fantasy film “Time Bandits” after a single season.

The news comes just a few weeks after the series completed its ten-episode first season on August 21st. Jemaine Clement and his fellow “What We Do in the Shadows” creators Taika Waititi and Iain Morris created the series.

The story follows an 11-year-old history geek named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) as he journeys through the centuries with a ragtag group of thieves led by Penelope (Lisa Kudrow).

This crew embark on epic adventures while evil forces threaten their conquests, and life as they know it. As the group transports through time and space, the gang stumbles upon fascinating worlds of the distant past while seeking out treasure.

Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Rune Temte, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva and Clement also starred. The now-closed Paramount Television Studios, Anonymous Content and MRC Television produced the series.

Clement confirmed back in July he and Waititi had begun scripting a second season, but was aware its chances of going forward depended upon viewership of the first.

Viewing figures for the series aren’t publicly available, but the show didn’t break into Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series in the first four weeks of its run. Critics overall liked the show.
