Blue Harbor Entertainment has acquired North American rights to faith-based time-hopping animated movie “The King of Kings” with plans for an Easter 2025 theatrical release.

The inspirational sci-fi film is loosely based not on a gospel or Biblical work, rather on “The Life of Our Lord” – a posthumously published Charles Dickens short story which focuses on the life and times of Jesus Christ.

In the story, Dickens goes on a multidimensional adventure with his youngest son Walter, engaging his vivid imagination with the fascinating life of Jesus from his various challenges to his friends and enemies.

Oscar Isaac will voice Jesus in the film alongside Kenneth Branagh as Dickens. Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, Uma Thurman, Mark Hamill, Pierce Brosnan and Roman Griffin Davis also voice star.

Seong-ho ‘Jay’ Jang directs the film with South Korea-based animation house Mofac Animation providing the animation. Jang co-wrote King of Kings with Rob Edwards (“The Princess and the Frog”). Anfernee Kim produces.

The Easter holiday falls on the April 18-20 weekend next year.
