Sony has officially announced the PS5 Pro. The console will be released worldwide on November 7th, with pre-orders starting September 20th, and a price of $700 USD.
System architect Mark Cerny unveiled the console on Tuesday, the system introducing a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, a 2TB SSD, and AI-driven upscaling for new and existing titles.
The PS5 Pro boasts a GPU with 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory, leading to overall 45% faster rendering for gameplay to make the experience much smoother.
A dedicated Advanced Ray Tracing system will allow for “double, and at times triple” that on the current PS5, while there’s also a dedicated AI-driven upscaling system PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to allow for better image clarity.
One enhancement not leaked is ‘PS5 Pro Game Boost,’ which can apply to the more than 8,500 backwards compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. That feature “may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games” and offer “enhanced image quality” for PS4 games to improve their resolution.
Sony Interactive Entertainment business CEO, Hideaki Nishino says: “We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS.”
Games will get patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. Those games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title.
