Amazon’s “The Boys” is set to end with its upcoming fifth and final season which is gearing up for production and isn’t expected to go to air until 2026.
In a new interview with Total Film, showrunner Eric Kripke has offered fans a warning that the fifth and final season won’t hold back on the viciousness seen in prior seasons.
He says there “will probably be lots of death” and, with this being the end, no one is safe which means “you can have really shocking, big things happen all the time”.
Several main characters from the comics die nastily, something we could well see played out here. Kripe says he’s well aware of the stakes that come with a final season of a show, and how so many fail to stick the landing:
“So many series finales suck, and it’s really hard to land the plane. I am very grateful to Amazon for giving me the opportunity to end it on our own terms, but for sure, I feel lots and lots of pressure to end it well. Because I think if we can stick the landing, then people will be like, ‘That’s a great show!’ But if we s— the bed, people will say, ‘Oh, it was a good show, but they s— the bed.’”
The final season is reportedly aiming to begin filming around Thanksgiving and will continue well into mid-next year with episodes then arriving sometime in 2026. Before that a second season of “Gen V” will release on Amazon next year.
