Of all of Adam Sandler’s past movies, the one that, arguably, most of us return to again and again is Happy Gilmore. Just the right blend of absurdist comedy and high quotability, it edges out The Waterboy for yucks. It also has the best supporting cast.

Netflix are now big in the legacy sequel game, and the long-awaited sequel to Happy Gilmore has started shooting. Production has officially begun.

Both Sandler and Netflix shared the photo on social media of the character’s Boston Bruins jersey.

Sandler will reprise his role as Happy Gilmore. The NFL’s Travis Kelce and filmmaker/actor Benny Safdie are both in the sequel. Christopher McDonald is expected to return as Shooter McGavin and confirmed he had seen the script a while ago. If there is not a dream sequence featuring a midget cowboy on a unicycle, we riot.

Sadly, Carl Weathers will not be back as scene-stealing golfing coach Chubbs Peterson. The actor passed away in February. Golf sportscaster Verne Lundquist, who appeared in the original, still gets a monthly $34 check from the Screen Actors Guild for his appearance in the film.

The original also won an MTV Movie Award for “Best Fight” for the scene between The Price Is Right host Bob Barker and Happy. Ed McMahon was originally hired to do the fight scene instead of Bob Barker, but McMahon changed his mind when he learned about the movie’s crude humor and didn’t want to lose the fight.

Bob Barker was then chosen because Chuck Norris was Barker’s neighbor and taught him karate, so Sandler rewrote the script to make Barker win the fight.

No plot outline is known at this time, and there is currently no release date for Happy Gilmore 2. The original is now close to 30 years old and shit, I suddenly feel very old again.
