Irish actor Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn,” “Eternals”) has given an interview to Variety today whilst promoting “Bird” at the Toronto Film Festival.
Asked about a number of projects he’s tied to, one of the obvious questions is regarding his future with Warners & DC’s “The Batman” franchise and if he’ll be back for “The Batman Part II” due to shoot next year.
Keoghan made a short appearance as The Joker in the closing moments of Matt Reeves’ first “The Batman” film, and had a longer deleted scene that was released online. In terms of the sequel responded:
“There we go! I can’t say much. The camera is looking right at me. We’ll see where that goes. Again, it was an incredible experience … and yeah, I can’t say.”
He also had fun teasing a solo project for his Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” character Druig, saying:
“I’d love to see a movie with just him playinf about mind-controlling everyone. No, really, motive, just mind-controlling for the sake of it. Prep for superhero movies is that you need to humanize. Don’t play for the superhero, try and bring the human side of them out.”
Speaking of Marvel, Andrew Garfield is also in Toronto for the premiere of “We Live in Time” where Indiewire asked him about rumors he’ll be back for the next “Spider-Man” film.
He dismisses the talk, saying: “I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.”
Of course, Garfield famously denied his involvement in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” all the way up until release so fans aren’t going to take the response that seriously.
That said, it’s still not clear what direction Marvel and Sony are going to go with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man after ‘No Way Home’ which played like a trilogy capper. Holland is expected to return, but the film’s tone could go in several directions.
