Salem’s Lot has been a long time coming. Additional photography was wrapped up in late 2022. The rumors are that veteran horror scribe Gary Dauberman wrote and directed a pretty faithful; adaption of the Stephen King novel.
That means low-level dread, creeping fear, and vampiric disease spreading through personal temptation and unhappiness. Then Warner Bros, who were expecting a jump scare-loaded reworking of the 1979 Tobe Hooper TV movie got all confused, despite the existence of the Rob Lowe-led version that straddles the two approaches.
Whatever happened, it will now land on Max as a special event this October. There is no trailer yet. One will be imminent, but they have released a clip showing the scene from Straker’s mansion as the crew investigates a dead body.
It seems nicely creeping and unsettling, exactly as Salem’s Lot should be.
You know the story by now. Lewis Pullman stars as author Ben Mears, a man who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot only to find something sinister has come to the town. He finds himself locked in a battle for the very soul of the town, against an evil he could now have possibly imagined.
Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, William Sadler, Makenzie Leigh, John Benjamin Hickey, Pilou Asbæk, Jordan Preston Carter, and Spencer Treat Clark also star.
It marks the third official adaptation of King’s second (and best!) novel.
Salem’s Lot will be available for streaming in the U.S. in October 2024 exclusively on Max. There are rumors of a theatrical release elsewhere.
