MGM+ has officially cancelled its sci-fi series “Beacon 23” after two seasons. In addition, they’ve announced “The Winter King” will not return after it was axed by ITVX in the U.K.

The news isn’t a big surprise. Spectrum and AMC greenlit “Beacon 23” and shot the first two seasons back-to-back. MGM+ acquired it and aired the second season in April.

The first season unfolds in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way and follows Aster (Lena Headey), a government agent, and Halan (Stephan James), a stoic ex-military man, who find their fates entangled after becoming trapped together inside one of many Beacons that serve as a lighthouse for intergalactic travellers.

Barbara Hershey, Stephen Root, Natasha Mumba and Jess Salgueiro co-starred in the Zak Penn-created series.

“The Winter King” was set in the fifth century, long before Britain was united, in a brutal land of warring factions. It follows Arthur Pendragon (Iain De Caestecker) as he evolves from outcast to legendary warrior and leader.

Eddie Marsan, Ellie James, Nathaniel Martello-White, Stuart Campbell, Daniel Ings and Valene Kane co-starred.
