Unsurprisingly, the Rupert Sanders-directed reboot of “The Crow” is racing to digital with the title set to hit PVOD platforms next Friday, September 13th.
That’s three weeks after it hit cinemas on August 23rd. The film, which was stuck in development for well over a decade, finally got made for a $50 million budget and launched last month.
The results were disastrous. The Lionsgate-distributed film so far has made just $18.5 million worldwide, half of which has been domestic.
Reviews from critics and audiences have been scathing with just a 23% (4.2/10) on Rotten Tomatoes and a not terrible, but not good B- CinemaScore.
The three-week theatrical-to-digital jump replicates Lionsgate’s other recent flop “Borderlands” which they opened theatrically on August 9th to reviews even more scathing and poor box-office. It hit PVOD on August 30th.
Lionsgate next has Coppola’s “Megalopolis” which is tracking for a debut of just $5 million, but is generating a lot of talk. They also have Alexandre Aja’s “Never Let Go” due out later in the year and Mel Gibson’s “Flight Risk” which has been pushed to 2025.
