“Nope” star Keke Palmer is attached to star in “The Burbs,” a TV series reimagining of the iconic 1989 Tom Hanks-led dark comedy for the Peacock streaming service.
The project has received a straight-to-series order and will boast a comedic mystery tone. Brian Grazer and Seth MacFarlane are among the show’s executive producers, the former not a surprise as Imagine Entertainment produced the film.
Palmer will play half of a young married couple who return to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when new neighbors move in next door, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light.
New deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood and its assorted colorful characters.
Joe Dante helmed the original which received mix reviews at the time, but opened at No. 1 at the box office and has since earned a cult following.
Celeste Hughley (“Palm Royale,” “Dead to Me”) is writing the series while Hughley, Grazer, MacFarlane, Palmer, Kristen Zolner, Natalie Berkus, Erica Huggins and Aimee Carlson will executive produce.
