It’s one of the most acclaimed yet underrated series of the current streaming era, and with its fourth season, things are looking no different.

Apple TV+ premiered the fourth season of its darkly comedic espionage thriller series “Slow Horses” today and the critics review scores are stunning.

With 24 reviews counted, the series sits at a perfect 100% and a very strong 8.7/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. That continues the show’s stellar record which included a 95% (7.7), 100% (8.5/10), and 98% (8.5/10) for the prior three seasons respectively.

On Metacritic it’s a similar story, the series pulling in an 89/100 – the best yet and an improvement over the 78, 84 and 85 of previous seasons. It sits higher than the score of many of this year’s most acclaimed shows including “Baby Reindeer” (88/100), “Shogun” (85) and “X-Men ’97” (82).

Here’s a sampling of reviews:

“We’re into series four now and there is no drop in quality. If anything, each series improves slightly on the last. Watching it is pure pleasure. There isn’t a wasted scene or a duff piece of dialogue. Every performance is perfectly calibrated.” – Anita Singh, The Telegraph

“We are now on season four and it still seems incapable of putting a foot wrong… As ever, though, it is Oldman you want to watch the most, contaminating the screen beautifully and weaponising how greasily disgusting he looks.” – Carol Midgley, Times

“No homework is required, nor is it difficult to get up to speed on what’s happening. You can just dive right into the latest adventure on this enormously entertaining show — and if you haven’t yet, you should.” – Alan Sepinwall, Rolling Stone

“One of the joys of Slow Horses is its ability to balance an inherently dramatic narrative with a wry sense of humor. That still exists, but Season 4 is more personal, and, thus, feels more consequential than its predecessors.” – Kaitlin Thomas, Paste Magazine

“Drum-tight, fat-free and hugely entertaining, Slow Horses remains the best thrill ride on TV by several hundred furlongs.” – Pat Stacey, Irish Independent

“The comedy’s still wonderfully delivered and effectively deployed so as not to overwhelm the most serious moments, and the show’s heart is perhaps more firmly on its sleeve than ever. Meanwhile, the relationships between the characters only get richer and more engaging with each outing.” – James Hibbs, Radio Times

“Tackling a new case each season, while keeping the same format and framework, is enormously satisfying when done well.” – Nina Metz, Chicago Tribune

The first episode of the new run is now available on Apple TV+ with all six episodes available from October 9th for those wanting to binge watch.
