People have been wondering for a while now about the delays to the sequel to Netflix action hit “The Old Guard”.

The Gina Prince-Bythewood directed first film was released in 2020 and followed a team of immortal mercenaries on a revenge mission. Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor starred.

All returned for the Victoria Mahoney-directed sequel and have been joined by Uma Thurman and Henry Golding with shooting on the project running from June to September 2022.

Two years on since filming wrapped and not a peep aside from earlier this year when Theron indicated an executive regime change at Netflix, and the strikes shutting down post-production efforts, were behind the delay.

Now, What’s on Netflix is reporting that nearly two weeks of new filming has been set up for the sequel in October according to UBCP-ACTRA.

This additional filming in Canada’s British Columbia province is a shift after the main shoot took place in the United Kingdom. Mahoney is returning for the reshoots/additional photography which runs October 7th-18th.

Thus, it’s looking likely that “The Old Guard 2” will hit the streamer sometime in early-mid 2025.
