By Netflix has handed out a straight-to-series order for “Midnight Sun,” an animated series based on Stephanie Meyer’s 2020 “Twilight” alternate perspective novel.
The original four book “Twilight” series centered around shy high-schooler Bella Swan. ‘Sun’ re-tells the first book’s story through the eyes of vampire Edward Cullen.
The project was reported as being in early development back in April 2023 at Lionsgate Television with word of it being an animated series hitting back in March.
Netflix has now snagged the project and Sinead Daly (“Tell Me Lies,” “The Get Down”) will serve as writer and executive producer.
Meyer serves as an executive producer on the series along with Meghan Hibbett, Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey. Lionsgate Television will produce.
The five previous “Twilight” films were released between 2008 and 2012 and grossed over $3 billion at the global box office.
