Filmmaker Neil Blomkamp (“District 9,” “Elysium”) has reportedly set up his next feature “Alpha” at Sony Pictures according to DanielRPK.
He and Sony are re-teaming after last year’s film adaptation of PlayStation’s famed “Gran Turismo” franchise. The resulting film grossed $122.2 million from a $60 million budget, and received mixed critical reviews – though audience reviews were better.
Former “Breaking Bad” and “Westworld” actor Aaron Paul will reportedly star in the film which tackles a government approved experiment on a death row inmate that goes awry.
The experiment has turned him into apex predator. Paul plays the FBI agent assigned to track him down.
In recent years Blomkamp is mostly famous for revealing passion projects that fall apart in development including a direct “Aliens” sequel, a “HALO” movie, and a new take on “RoboCop”.
He’s also trying to revive “District 10,” a sequel to his breakthrough “District 9,” but the chance of that happening depends on other successes first.
