Former “Community” and “GLOW” star Alison Brie has scored the key villain role of Evil-Lyn in the new live-action “Masters of the Universe” at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.
She marks the third hiring for the project following the casting of Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man and royal guard captain Camila Mendes as Teela. Mendes has had to drop out of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot today due to her scheduling commitments to this.
Travis Knight directs the film which centers on Price Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into He-Man and is embued with superhuman strength and abilities, which he uses to defend his native planet and Castle Grayskull.
The property is best known for the iconic 1983 animated series which was previously adapted to the big screen in live-action form in 1987.
Evil-Lyn is Skeletor’s second-in-command, using a staff with a crystal orb on it to practice the dark arts. Meg Foster played the character in the prior live-action movie, more recently Lena Headey voiced the role in Kevin Smith’s animated sequel series.
The new take on He-Man has long been in development and moved across various studios and streamers. Knight will direct from a screenplay by Chris Butler while Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing.
“Masters of the Universe” will score a worldwide theatrical release on June 5th 2026. Brie currently stars in Peacock’s thriller limited series “Apples Never Fall”.
