“Batman: Arkham” creator Rocksteady Studios marks the latest game developer to be hit with layoffs.
Eurogamer reports that numerous employees have been made redundant over the past month, with at least one department finding its staff halved.
One employee was reportedly informed they were being made redundant, despite being in the middle of paternity leave.
Their source adds that the job losses are directly linked to the poor sales of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” with the results leading to a ‘restructuring’ of the company.
“Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League” was in development for nearly a decade and marked a shift from the acclaimed and strong selling single-player “Batman: Arkham” games they made their name on, to a multiplayer live-service title.
The result was mixed/poor reviews and a failure to achieve a consistent player base. Warner Bros. Discovery even cited the game’s failure as one of the key reasons its gaming revenue dropped this year with a $200 million impact to impact to earnings.
