DC Studios chief James Gunn has teased the currently in production second season of the John Cena-led “Peacemaker” for HBO.
Gunn posted a photo of the back of Cena’s altered helmet in the new run of the series, which has been filming since April in Atlanta, filming simultaneously alongside Gunn’s “Superman” shoot at Trilith Studios.
It’s expected shooting will wrap in October ahead of airing in the second half of 2025. As the new season is set in the same universe as Gunn’s “Superman” film, it’s expected to come out sometime after that film releases on July 11th 2025.
The second season is written by Gunn with Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee all returning. They’ll be joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flagg Sr., Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux and David Denman in an unknown role.
Just how the series will accommodate the shift of being in the DCEU in the first season to the new DCU in the second hasn’t been revealed as yet, only Gunn teasing he’s found a way to do it.
Gunn and Peter Safran serve as executive producers on the series, with Cena as co-executive producer.
On this day, #Peacemaker aka Christopher Smith made his first comic appearance in Fightin’ 5 #40, in 1966, created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. It’s the role @JohnCena was born to play, and I can’t wait to show you all what we’re cooking up now for @Peacemaker Season 2! pic.twitter.com/LRkiIlHpER
