The stars of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” are out doing interviews as the film premiered in Venice and London this week, one of those stars being actor Justin Theroux.
Though mostly known for his acting work in shows like “The Leftovers” and “The Mosquito Coast” and films like “Mulholland Drive” and “American Psycho,” he’s also a writer/producer.
His script work can be seen in numerous films, including “Iron Man 2,” “Zoolander 2,” “Rock of Ages,” and, most notably, the beloved 2008 comedy “Tropic Thunder”.
Speaking with Comicbook.com, Theroux teased that he’s “definitely” do a ‘Thunder’ follow-up if the right idea was found. He added:
“I have some stuff already churning that I’d love to do, but I’ll keep it a secret. Hollywood just gets funnier as the years go on. It never ceases to amaze me how navel-gazing it can be. There’s a million things – we’ve gone through so many movements in Hollywood that I think those would all be somehow in the mix. Listen, if an idea strikes me, like it struck Tim [Burton], where it’s like, ‘Oh, this could be a sequel,’ I’ll definitely do a sequel.”
The comments follow on from similar sentiments from both Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. who have both expressed interest in returning.
Ben Stiller directed and starred in the film which Theroux and Etan Cohen wrote. Danny McBride, Jack Black, Brandon T. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Steve Coogan and Nick Nolte co-starred in the original which scored wide praise and pulled in over $195 million at the box office.
