Kingdom Rush 5 Alliance is one of the more enjoyable Tower Defense games in recent memory. The premise is simple; build various towers and Guard Barracks in order to create a defense to keep enemy troops from being able to reach a key strategic point on your map.
Using a tower for Archers is a good start but foot soldiers, heroes, and a Wizard’s lair complete with the power to zap enemies are all good; but an enemy that sends endless waves at you and also has durable boss enemies to deploy will require some cunning and creative approaches.
Being able to call in a timed power such as a volley of arrows is not only effective but rewarding as is calling in your Hero to delay the swarm while new towers are built or vines can slow their approach so you can attempt a counter-attack.
As the levels increase, naturally so do the options and the challenges which will test even the most well-constructed strategy and will require patience in order to see the plan successfully implemented. Towers can only be built at certain locales and knowing what and where to build is key as being able to slow an enemy can be a greater weapon than defeating them as it allows players more time to build and plan.
The graphics in the game are quirky and fun and the sound effects set the tone well. While it will not set a new standard for the genre: I can honestly say that I had more fun playing this game than others in the genre and it is one that fans will not want to miss.
