For a few years now, acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher has been attached to a film remake of Netflix’s Korean series sensation “Squid Game”.
Fincher last directed the Michael Fassbender-led “The Killer” for the streamer, and his name has been attached to several projects, including a “Chinatown” prequel series and a new adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s “Strangers on a Train.”
It was rumoured earlier this year that when “Squid Game” proved such a success for the streamer in late 2021, Fincher opted to pivot to the English-language “Squid Game” film remake as his post-Killer” project – enlisting British writer Dennis Kelly (“Black Sea”) to help him.
Now both Jeff Sneider and World of Reel are reporting that it will be Fincher’s next film and seems to be called “Squid Game: America”.
The latter also suggests the ‘Strangers’ remake is also a strong candidate, and that Brad Pitt has hopped onboard the project which already has Ben Affleck attached.
Fincher has previously directed remakes, most notably the U.S. version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
To date, Netflix has not acknowledged the existence of a “Squid Game” remake, with company chief Ted Sarandos dismissing the idea earlier this year.
“Squid Game: Season 2” will debut on the service in December.
