Pixar’s “Toy Story” films have been universally praised with all four movies scoring near perfect numbers on Rotten Tomatoes – 100% (9.1/10), 100% (8.7/10), 98% (8.9/10) and 97% (8.3/10) respectively.
Nonetheless, the fourth one is seen as the weakest of the bunch, mostly because it was essentially unnecessary – especially in the wake of the third film serving as a trilogy capper.
One person who isn’t a fan is Quentin Tarantino who appeared on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast. He says he believes there are only two perfect trilogies in cinema – Sergio Leone’s “The Man With No Name” films, and the “Toy Story” films.
As a result. He refuses to watch the fourth one, believing it will ruin a ‘perfect trilogy’:
“I am a big fan of the ‘Toy Story’ trilogy. The third one is is just magnificent, and it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and, if you’ve seen the other two, then it’s just devastating.
The thing is, three years later, or something like that, they did a fourth one and I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no I I don’t care if it’s good I’m done.”
The talk comes as a fifth “Toy Story” movie is in the works as Pixar who had a disappointment with the franchise in the form of the ‘what if’ spin-off “Lightyear”.
The comments have also led to plenty of discussion about what else could be considered a perfect trilogy – even if it is one within a larger franchise.
Quentin Tarantino says he is a big fan of Toy Story and that the ‘TOY STORY’ trilogy is so perfect that he’ll never watch ‘TOY STORY 4’.
