Reshoots are reportedly underway on James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” starring Timothee Chalamet and Elle Fanning according to World of Reel.
The outlet reported the other week that a private screening of a ‘work in progress’ cut of the film garnered “mediocre reactions” with too much focus on the relationship between Dylan (Chalamet) and Sylvie Russo (Fanning) and overly long at two-and-a-half hours.
So, reshoots have been called and are expected to last for several weeks. It’s reported that Chalamet and a ‘good chunk’ of the cast are back on the set in New Jersey for these reshoots.
The film has had a breakneck production pace – filming began in March and wrapped by May, with the first trailer released last month. It is still reportedly targeting a Christmas Day release.
The project deals with the folk scene of the early 1960s and Dylan’s rising stardom. Edward Norton, Monica Barbaro, Nick Offerman and Boyd Holbrook co-star.
Former film critic Jay Cocks Jr. wrote the script. He previously penned Kathryn Bigelow’s underrated “Strange Days,” Irwin Winkler’s “De-Lovely,” and three strong Scorsese period pieces – “The Age of Innocence,” “Silence,” “Gangs of New York” along with uncredited work on “The Last Temptation of Christ”.
