In welcomely surprising news, it has been reported that Apple TV+ soccer comedy series “Ted Lasso” may be getting a fourth season after all.
Warner Bros. Television has picked up the options on the three original cast members contracted under UK acting union Equity – Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent and Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins.
The studio is expected to quickly start reaching out to cast members with SAG-AFTRA contracts for new deals after their options had expired.
That includes co-creators/executive producers Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) along with cast like Juno Temple (Keeley Jones).
Which others will return is unclear but many in the cast have said repeatedly that they would be happy to reprise their roles if an opportunity arises.
This is all paving the way for a fourth season green light – contingent on budget approval and scheduling. Early preparations are also being made to open a writer’s room.
Those involved have said in the past that Sudeikis is key to a fourth season happening, and the trade says that the studio would not be moving forward like this without his consent.
Should everything go well, production on a fourth season could begin as soon as early 2025.
