Fast food restaurant Chick-Fil-A is making aggressive moves into entertainment with plans for a streaming service boasting a large slate of originals.
The fried chicken sandwich company, which operates over 3,000 restaurants in the U.S., has been working with a number of major production companies and studios to create family-friendly shows for the service.
The service will consist of mostly unscripted fare, but is also in talks to license and acquire content. Scripted projects and animation are being talked about but will likely come later.
Glassman Media (NBC’s “The Wall”) has a a family-friendly gameshow in the works, while Sugar23 (“13 Reasons Why”) has a series in development that has received a ten-episode order.
Budgets on the unscripted side are said to be in the range of $400,000 per half-hour with TV executive Brad Gibson (“The X Factor”) spearheading the programming for the streamer.
The reality TV industry has struggled in recent years as audiences move away from broadcast and cable to streaming, with this reportedly being seen as a welcome move for those who work in that field.
The plan is to launch this service, which does not yet have a name, later this year.
