Jack Black and Paul Rudd are reportedly in early talks to star in a re-imagining of famed 1997 horror film “Anaconda” at Sony Pictures.
“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” helmer Tom Gormican is co-writing and directing the feature which sounds like it will take some of the meta comedy aspect of that film and bring it here.
In the new film, a group of friends face a mid-life crisis and so decide to remake their favorite film from their youth. They head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.
Black will reportedly play a man stuck in his job as a wedding videographer and sets out to direct this ‘remake’. Rudd will play a former TV actor whose Hollywood dreams are slipping further away.
The film has reportedly been around since early 2023 with multiple script re-writes as it tries to find the right tone. Kevin Etten is co-writing the script while Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing.
Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight starred in the original 1997 movie which followed a film crew aiming to document the world’s largest and deadliest snake on the Amazon. It lead to a theatrical sequel, two Sci-Fi Channel telemovies and a “Lake Placid vs Anaconda” team-up film.
