Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights to adapt Reikon’s hit video game “Ruiner” into a feature film.

In addition, “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball is attached to direct while Michael Arlen Ross (“Locked”) will adapt the screenplay.

The action shooter title is set in the year 2091 in the cyber metropolis Rengkok and follows a wired psychopath who fights against a corrupt system to uncover the truth and retrieve his kidnapped brother.

Under the guidance of a mysterious hacker, he battles through a brutal world filled with cutting-edge technology and dark secrets throughout its neon-lit streets.

87North, Story Kitchen and Oddball are backing the project which Ball, Joe Hartwick Jr., Kelly McCormick and David Leitch will produce.

As previously reported, Ball is also developing a live-action adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda” film with that very likely taking precedence over this.
