Amongst the post-“Avengers: Endgame” films and series, not a lot of great works stand out from Marvel Studios with the most well-received – “Loki,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “WandaVision” and “Deadpool & Wolverine” focusing on established characters.

One of the few to be well-received was “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” which saw the introduction of Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi character who hasn’t been seen since.

It was always expected he would be back for whenever the next “Avengers” film comes around, and while a direct “Shang-Chi” sequel has been teased several times by Liu and others – it has yet to be officially announced by Marvel.

Now, outlet Inverse says they can confirm via their sources that in the original plan for the fifth “Avengers,” back when it was to be “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” Shang-Chi would have been one of the film’s main lead characters.

That’s not a big surprise considering “Shang-Chi” director Destin Daniel Cretton was the one originally slated to helm ‘Kang’. Of course, the project has now changed into “Avengers: Doomsday” and has since been retooled to feature Robert Downey Jr. as the villain Victor Von Doom.

In addition, the Russo brothers are taking over as directors so it’s not clear if the role will be reduced under their watch. Marvel did announce some blank release dates the other week with one of those having a decent shot of being a “Shang-Chi” direct sequel.
