Brad Caleb Kane, one of the executive producers on the upcoming “IT” prequel series “Welcome to Derry,” has been appointed the new showrunner of another horror prequel show – the “Friday the 13th”-inspired “Crystal Lake” for Peacock and A24.
The project seemingly stalled earlier this year with creator/showrunner Bryan Fuller exiting. No reason was cited for his exit but A24 was said to be retooling the project behind the scenes with the studio “going a different way with the material” according to comments at the time.
For months there’s been nothing, leading to speculation the project may have been cancelled. Not so with Kane set to be the show’s creator, writer and executive producer along with showrunner duties.
Plot specifics are under wraps though it’s likely to be a prequel and/or involve Jason in his early days as the Camp Crystal Lake killer. Kane says in a statement:
“Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff; Robert M. Barsamian and Robert P. Barsamian also executive produce the series. Prior to ‘Derry,’ Kane served as a writer and/or producer on “Fringe,” “Black Sails,” “Lodge 49,” “Warrior” and “Tokyo Vice”.
