Star Wars Eclipse
Quantic Dream’s High Republic-set “Star Wars Eclipse” game, first teased with a cinematic trailer during the 2021 Game Awards, appears to have again hit rough waters.
Adam Williams, who has been at Quantic Dream for a decade and was the lead writer on the game, is leaving the company. At present, the game is rumored to not even be hitting until 2027. [Source: Gameranx]
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1
Max has set a Friday August 23rd premiere date for Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” on the streaming service. The project is the first installment of his proposed four-part western series.
The second film was originally slated to open theatrically today but was pulled theatrical release after the box-office failure of the first film. It will instead bow at the Venice Film Festival out-of-competition on September 7th. [Source: Max]
Criterion
Long-running The Digital Bits owner Bill Hunt answered a recent question on X, that indicates the Criterion Collection will be able to distribute select catalog titles from Disney-owned 20th Century Fox (& Fox Searchlight) going forward.
That has led to a bunch of jokes today about “Speed 2: Cruise Control” and “Freddy Got Fingered” coming to Criterion, even as we are potentially seeing this arrangement bear fruit in November as Searchlight’s “The Shape of Water” is joining the collection.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Wes Craven’s iconic horror film “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is getting a 40th anniversary ‘uncut’ release in 4K on October 1st both on disc and digital. The version will be unrated with a small amount of additional footage. A trailer for the release is up on YouTube.
