By Further details have emerged in what could turn out to be a potential legal battle between Disney and “X-Men ’97” creator Beau DeMayo.
In March, Marvel fired DeMayo just one week before “X-Men ’97” premiered with no reason for the firing given at the time.
Yesterday, DeMayo reportedly claimed Marvel sent a letter notifying him that they had stripped him of his second season credits due to a posting a piece of fan art for Gay Pride.
The studio responded, telling THR that the firing occurred after an internal investigation revealed “egregious” findings. The trades added that the investigations were over alleged sexual misconduct, while the credit removal was due to breaches of the separation agreement.
The Insneider has a follow-up report going into the allegations against DeMayo which allegedly involves unsolicited photos and claims of emotional and physical abuse of staffers.
Either way things are getting serious as DeMayo is now reportedly represented by attorney Bryan Freedman who has handled some of Hollywood’s biggest wrongful termination cases in recent years.
In a statement to Deadline, Freedman blasted the studio saying: “Once it gets challenged or exposed, the gaslighting and redirection of the blame toward anyone willing to tell the truth starts through an international well oiled publicity machine.”
He adds that DeMayo “wants nothing from Marvel/Disney except the truth. He will bravely tell the truth. So will I. Stand by.”
DeMayo himself has issued a new statement on X indicating there’s going to be more to come: “The truth will be revealed. After their Disney Plus disaster, Marvel wants to mislead with alleged contract breaches over tweets. It’s tragic it’s come to this but unsurprising. Stay tuned.”
